The University

Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW)

With more than 9,000 students, the ZHAW is Switzerland’s largest, multi-disciplinary university of applied sciences. Its importance is well recognized both nationally and internationally. Two features of the university are its interdisciplinary approach and its focus on practical applicability. The ZHAW aims to achieve excellence in all aspects of its mandates: teaching, research and development, continuing education, and consulting and services.

School of Management and Law (SML)

The School of Management and Law, one of eight departments at the ZHAW, was established in 1968 as one of the first institutions in Switzerland to offer tertiary-level instruction in management and business administration. The school’s maxim: “Building competence. Crossing borders” reflects the school’s aims to provide superior learning and training opportunities, especially as they pertain to global and international issues. The SML offers internationally recognized Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs as well as a broad selection of well-established, research-based, continuing education programs, all of which closely cooperate with regional and national business enterprises.

Location

The ZHAW is located in Winterthur, Switzerland’s sixth-largest city. Winterthur was home to many industrial pioneers, such as Charles Brown, Johann Jacob Rieter, and Johann Jakob Sulzer. You can still feel their spirit as you walk through the old town. In recent years the city has undergone a rapid development. Many of the older industrial estates have been converted into modern office complexes, shopping malls, or multiplex theaters. Business start-ups have settled within while existing enterprises have re-located their operations to the larger Winterthur area, making it a melting pot of traditional entrepreneurship and innovation. Winterthur is conveniently located to Zurich International Airport and to the city of Zurich, the business and international financial center of Switzerland (both less than a 20-minute train ride away).
